Antennas Calibration
Calibration of antennas and EMC site evaluation measurements
Narda STS measures antenna factors on a 17m x 13m metal ground plane.
The traceability is guaranteed by the validation of the site on reference to international standard with broadband antennas and accordable dipoles. |
|
Calibration on O.A.T.S. can be performed over the frequency range 20 MHz to 18 GHz with the standard site method and the standard-antenna method.
Narda STS offers a measurement of free space antenna factor besides ANSI 63.5 and SAE ARP 958 antenna factor.
Antenna can be calibrated for a given height above the ground plane and a particular polarisation if required.
|
Until 50 MHz the monopole antenna (active and passive rod) are calibrated with the substitution method.
The loop antennas are calibrated inside an anechoic chamber by measuring the current in a primary loop and calculating the induction field. The loop to be calibrated is placed in this known field and the antenna factor is measured.

Narda STS also performs site evaluations:
- Normalised site attenuation measurements in the frequency range 30 MHz to 1000 MHz.
- O.A.T.S. or semi anechoic chambers - according to ANSI 63.4, CISPR 16-1, EN 50147-2
- fully anechoic chambers - according to EN 50147-3.
- Shielding attenuation in the frequency range 10 kHz to 18 GHz according to Mil-Std 285, EN 50147-1 and IEEE 299.
- Transmission loss measurements in the frequency range 1 GHz to 18 GHz according to EN 50147-1 and ANSI C63.4, except that no height scan is performed because the floor is not reflective and the free space attenuation is taken as reference.
- Field uniformity measurements in the frequency range 20 MHz to 18 GHz according to IEC 1000-4-3, EN 61000-4-3 or IEC 61000-4-3.

The antenna types measured are:
- active and passive rod antenna (10 kHz to 200 MHz)
- active and passive loop antennas (100 Hz to 32 MHz)
- tuneable dipoles (25 MHz to 1,7 GHz)
- biconical antennas (20 MHz to 2 GHz)
- log-periodic antenna arrays (80 MHz to 5 GHz)
- conical log spiral antennas (200 MHz to 10 GHz)
- horn antennas (200 MHz to 26,5 GHz)
The antenna properties measured are:
- free space antenna factor
- ANSI 63.5 antenna factor
- SAE ARP 958 antenna factor
- Reflection coefficient
- Balun unbalance
- Radiation patterns
Tipical calibration results:
- ANSI 63.5 10 meters biconical antenna factor
